REFERENCE YEAR FOR DUTCH GREENHOUSES

A reference year of weather data has been developed especially for Dutch greenhouses. By using the IMAG computermodel "Energy requirements in greenhouses" this reference year, together with three other existing reference years, has been compared with long term (3 650 days) weather records of the Royal Dutch Meteorological Institute.

The comparisons have been made for energy requirements, cumulative frequency distribution curve of energy requirements, solar radiation and cumulative frequency distribution curve of solar radiation. A new reference year has been selected out of the long term records.

Using the data of any of the considered reference years (REF, VRJ, IMAG and SEL) appeared to produce the energy requirements quite well and the cumulative frequency distribution curve of energy requirements. The records of REF and SEL give a good cumulative frequency distribution curve for the solar radiation. None of the records, not even SEL, provides a sufficient good figure of the solar radiation for the purpose of calculation of assimilation. Therefore a correction-key to the solar radiation has been developed for the record SEL.
