INVESTIGATIONS ON SELF-INCOMPATIBILITY IN MANGIFERA INDICA L.
The existence of a pollination barrier in the form of self-incompatibility remained unknown in mango until Singh et al (9) reported it in the variety Dashehari.
Although intense fruit drop has been reported in many of the commercial varieties and self-sterility had also been suspected (4, 7), no attempts have been made to study the varietal situation in this regard.
The present studies were, therefore, undertaken to investigate into this phenomenon in greater detail in the variety Dashehari and also in three more of the popular commercial varieties of mango, namely Langra, Chausa and Bombay Green.
