CONTROL OF INVERTASE ACTIVITY BY AN INHIBITOR IN AGING PETALS.

J. Halaba, R.M. Rudnicki
Crude extracts containing an invertase inhibitor prepared from wilting petals of alstroemeria, dahlia, gladiolus, petunia and rose flowers reduced invertase activity while incubated together with a crude extract of invertase from fresh petals of the same species. Inhibition of the invertase activities was about 20 to 30% whicht indicates that the invertase activity during senescence of flower petals is controlled by the synthesis of an inhibitor.
