Production of ornamental hardy plants and plants for outdoor greening is important in Denmark, with a production value on about 500 mill. DK kroner, that is about 100 DK kroner or 6,5 US dollar for each Danish person.

The production is mainly used on the home market, with a great use for the many Danish private gardens. The export covers about 20% of the production, mainly to other Scandinavian countries and Finland. The import is mainly based on Germany and Netherland.

The use can mainly be devided into 2 groups:

A. Concerning plants, which have a special purpose in greening the landscape and towns such as shelter, street trees, groundcover, greening and so on. The amount of plants used, can only extend to a certain amount, as most plants grow for many years on the place, where they are planted.
