PHYSIOLOGICAL AND PRACTICAL ASPECTS OF SEED GERMINATION AND SEEDLING DEVELOPMENT IN CYCLAMEN PERSICUM L.

F. CORBINEAU, N. NEVEUR, D. CÒME
  • Cyclamen persicus L. seeds (fig. 1) germinate in a very narros range of temperatures (fig. 2 and 3).
  • Germination is strongly inhibited by continuous white light (fig. 3), even at very low irradiance.
  • The thermal optimum for germination 1% c. 15°C in both darkness and light (fig. 2 and 3).
  • Germination is also very sensitive to hypoxia.
  • Dry storage (fig. 4) and gibberellic acid at high concentration (fig. 5) stimulate the germination at supra-optimal temperature (20°C). short incubation (1 or 2 days) in te presence of GA3 is enough to promote germination and this stimulatory effect remains after drying and during dry storage.
