M. Vilajeliu
In Spain, there are aproximately 36.000 hectares of pear orchards, 14000 of them belong to Catalunya, NE region of the peninsula.

In Lérida, the summer varieties such as Dr. Jules Guyot, Blanquilla de Aranjuez, Red Barlett, Williams, etc.., are the most important, while in Gerona province there are only autumn varieties such as Passa Crassana, Conference, Doyenne du Comice, General Leclerc, etc..

Since 1.984, the Experimental Centre FUNDACIO MAS BADIA, has been working in a pest protection program of sweet fruit trees, following the integrated pest management methodology ( I.P.M.). Other lines of work in this centre are; improving sweet fruit quality, agrometeorology, agroenergy, extensive crops (winter and summer cereals), and forestry.
