A POTENTIAL METHOD FOR PREDICTING SUSCEPTIBILITY OF APPLES TO SUPERFICIAL SCALD

W. J. Bramlage, S. Meir
Two indices of scald susceptibility, hours below 10°C before harvest and OD 205 nm of a hexane extract of fruit surfaces at harvest, were tested. Neither index was applicable when tested among nine different cultivars, but both correlated well with scald susceptibility of the cultivar Cortland when three years of data were consolidated. The two indices were positively correlated.
