THE SPROUTING OF BULB ONIONS IN STORE

W.G. Tucker
Investment in expensive storage and trans-globe shipping of bulb onions make it increasingly important to identify those crops with the best long-term storage potential. Practical methods for doing this are discussed, and include the assessment of: leaf production during growth; the partition of dry matter to the bulb; crop drying; bulb respiration rate; bulb carbohydrate composition; natural sprout growth regulators; sprout development.
