USING GEOTHERMIC ENERGY AS HEAT SOURCE FOR GREENHOUSE HEATING

Use of geothermal energy at low temperature for greenhouse heating appears to be an attractive resource in commercial greenhouses to reduce conventional heating costs which strongly affect the greenhouse industry. A greenhouse complex of eight plastic-houses, 25x8 m, has been constructed in order to develop adapted technology and working equipment for geothermally heated greenhouses in Italy.

The paper describes the lay-out of the pilot-plant and the different techniques of geothermal heating which have been taken into consideration for greenhouse vegetables.

Last, energetical, microclimatic, agronomical and economical data are also reported.
