INFLUENCE DU CHAUFFAGE GEOTHERMIQUE SUR UNE CULTURE DE MELON D'ARRIERE SAISON

H. Verlodt, A. Mougou
Muskmelon production of good quality and acceptable size during the month of December is rather difficult to realize with cantalouppe type under unheated plastic greenhouses. Exportation of this type of muskmelon during the period of seasonal festivities at the end of the year offers good possibilities on European markets.

The present communication compares the effect of geothermal heating, with an energy output of 80 W/m2, to passive solar heating, on the behaviour of four different muskmelon hybrids ("68-02", "Pancha", "Supersprint" and "Alpha").

The results indicate better minimum air temperatures in the geothermal heated greenhouse, and the highest total and exportable yields and the best fruit size were also obtained under the geothermal heated greenhouse. The variety "Pancha" gives the best total yield and average fruit weight, with the best concentration of the yield during the exportation period. The economic results indicate quick payback of the heating installation.
