EVALUATING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE PASSIVE SOLAR SYSTEM FOR HEATING GREENHOUSES

Agricultural Research Center of Northern Greece has developed and experimented many energy-saving systems for heating greenhouses. One of them, the passive solar system, has been proven the most suitable for the Mediterranean conditions. Although, its technical suitability has been proven, it is the economical efficiency which determines the distribution and adoption of the system among the greenhouse enterprises. In this work an attempt is made to estimate the benefits of the passive solar system in terms of output production, gross revenues and net revenues. Results clearly indicate the financial efficiency of the passive solar system.
