RESPONSE OF STRAWBERRY VARIETIES CULTIVATED UNDER MACROTUNNEL

R. Bartual, V. Castell, J.I. Marsal, B. Cases, A. Vayá
Twenty-four European and American strawberry varieties were planted in August 1986. The diversity of characters was wide, including traits associated with quality and yield. Results indicate that highly significant differences among varieties were detected for all traits, the better adapted being Douglas, Chandler, Pajaro and Santana, but these could be improved for certain characters using other genetic material present in the trials.

The most promising varieties will be used as parents in a breeding program whose main objective is to obtain new varieties better adapted to our ecological conditions and cultivation system.
