D.H. SCOTT, G.J. GALLETTA, R.S. BRINGHURST
The United States of America produces about 500,000 metric tons of fruit om 56,000 acres (20,000 ha) and ranks first in world production. Seven different geographic regions are outlined and cultural methods, marketing, and major cultivars indicated for the regions. Regional adaptation of cultivars as a result of breeding programs is emphasized. Recent changes and developments in culture, disease control, and origination of new cultivars are discussed.
