PRODUCTIVITY OF TWENTY OLIVE (OLEA EUROPAEA L.) CULTIVARS
Productivity of twenty olive (Olea europaea L.) cultivars grafted on ‘Galega Vulgar’ was studied.
Earliness of fructification, total fruit yield (kg) and bearing degree (using the Hoblyn et al., 1936 index as referred by Pearce, 1976) were the studied parameters.
The twenty cultivars were distributed in four groups according to their earliness of fructification.
The cultivars were arranged in decreasing values of yield.
Five of the twenty cultivars showed a bearing index higher than ‘Galega Vulgar’. A positive correlation (r=0.826) between earliness of fructification and yield was observed.
