USING UREA AS THINNING AGENT IN OLIVE: THE INFLUENCE OF CONCENTRATION AND TIME OF APPLICATION
Various concentrations (2, 4, 6%) of urea as chemical thinner were applied to ‘Nocellara del Belice’ at full bloom (FB), FB+10, FB+20. Urea reduced fruit set significantly only when applied at FB+20, at fruitlet stage.
Final fruit set was reduced by about 50% as compared to the control plants treated with 6% urea at FB+20. Crop load and fruit characteristics were affected by treatments.
