IN VITRO SYSTEM TO STUDY SALT AND DROUGHT TOLERANCE OF WHEAT

It was found possible to model the effect of drought and salt stresses in wheat tissue culture by the use of mannitol and NaCl treatments, respectively. The changes in protein content, lipid peroxidation, superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase, glutathione and total peroxidase activities after the treatments seemed to be dependent on the drought and salt tolerance of various varieties.
