COMPARISON AMONG VEGETATIVE AND POMOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF STANDARD, SEMIDWARF AND COMPACT PEACH SELECTIONS

C. Fideghelli, G. Della Strada, F. Grassi
Among the progenies of seedlings obtained at the ISF of Rome by open pollination and cross pollination of peach and nectarine varieties, several very interesting selections of intermediate size between the dwarf Bonanza and the standard varieties have been identified and used in breeding programmes. The growth habit and fruit quality traits of these seedlings have been examined. The vegetative parametres of the three phenotypes identified (ST, SDW and CT) are reported and discussed. Comparing these data with the classification proposed by Scorza (1984) the only difference found is a shorter internode length of the SDW phenotype.
