P. W. J. Roberts, W. Swanekamp
Kube Pak Corporation is located in Allentown, New Jersey approximately half way between New York City and Philadelphia. The large, 5.6 hectare, controlled-environment plant production operation, features two greenhouses of galvanized pipe construction glazed with two layers of polyethylene greenhouse film using the air-inflated glazing technique. The greenhouse is environmentally controlled using a Q-com computer which regulates an overhead 5 cm pipe hot water heating system, a floor heating system of 18 mm polybutylene plastic pipe embedded in porous or solid concrete and a mechanical fan ventilation system featuring adjustable window air inlets. The greenhouse is serviced by a 3000 square meter headhouse which contains the soil mixing and cubing area, shipping, transplanting, worker services and restroom areas and maintenance shop.
