BENOMYL RESISTANCE OF COLLETOTRICHUM SPP. ASSOCIATED WITH RAMBUTAN AND MANGO FRUIT ROT IN THAILAND.
Mature fruits of rambutan and mango were collected randomly from various planting locations: rambutan from the East and the South of Thailand, and mango from the Central. The fruits were incubated for a period of time and Colletotrichum spp. were isolated from infected fruits. Benomyl resistant character was determined by means of mycelium growth on benomyl supplemented with PDA at the concentrations of 0, 0.1, 1.5 and 10 ppm (PDA + B). The tested Colletotrichum isolates were 36 and 42 respectively for rambutan from the East (ER) and the South (SR), and 31 for mango. Resistibility was evaluated into 3 levels : vigorously, moderately, and sensitive. 10, 6, 4 and 3 isolates of ER showed vigorously resistant while 12, 2, 2, and 1 isolates showed moderately resistant at the concentrations of 0.1, 1, 5, and 10 ppm, respectively. 3, 2, and 0 isolates of SR showed vigorously resistant while 5, 1 and 1 isolates showed moderately resistant at the concentrations of 0.1, 1, and 5 ppm. 11 and 4 isolates of Colletotrichum spp. isolated from mango showed moderately resistant at 0.1 and 1 ppm of benomyl concentrations, respectively. None showed vigorously resistant. Colonial characters of benomyl resistant isolates were slightly abnormal on PDA+B. Some of the benomyl sensitive isolates showed abnormal conidia and some showed no conidium formation while the vigorously resistant did not.
