In the first trial, application of paclobutrazol by single spray at the concentration of 500, 1 000, 1 500 ppm, soil drenches at 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 gm a.i./m2 of leaf canopy and in the second trial, single spray of paclobutratzol follow by ethephon single or two sequential sprays at the concentration of 300:(100), 700:(200), 1,100:(300), 1,500(400), 300:(100;100), 700:(200;200) and 1,100:(300;300) from December, 1987 to January, 1988, were compared to the untreated control on the one tree plot of 12 years old lychee cv. Hong Huay in Hung - Dong district, Chiang Mai, Thailand. It was found that none of the treatments had an affect on the percentage of flowering compared to the untreated control. Whereas soil drenches at 1.0 or 1.5 gm a.i./m2 reduced leaf flushing during the period of flowering compared to the untreated control. In the third trial, in December, 1989, single spray of paclobutrazol followed by two sequential sprays of ethephon at the concentration of 500:(300;300) and 1,500: (500;500) ppm. were applied on the half-tree plot of the 15 years old lychee cv. Hong Huay, in Mae Tang district, Chiang Mai, Thailand, were compared to the check or 1,000:(400;400) ppm on the other half of the tree and the untreated control trees which were not sprayed. It was found that the chemical treatments promoted flowering about three times more than control tree. The control tree and check had the longest panicle length which were longer than 500:(300;300) ppm and 1,000:(400;400) ppm, while 1,500:(500;500) ppm had the shortest panicle. The control tree and the check had less number of panicle per shoot compared to another treatments which are the same. During the period of flowering, the control trees flushed leaf much more than 500:(300;300) ppm treated tree, while leaf flushing on the trees treated with 1,500:(500;500) ppm had very few flushes.
