MAINTENANCE OF FOUNDATION STOCK OF POLISH GLADIOLUS CULTIVARS
Maintenance of foundation stock of Polish gladiolus cultivars is based on a positive (in the field) and negative (in the field and during storage) selection. For the positive selection each year corms of grade fourth to seventh (circumference 8–10 cm for grade IV and 2–4 cm for grade VII) are used as starting material. For reproductive stocks corms of grade IV up to and including VIII (cormels) are used. The whole process of maintenance of foundation stock ought to be carried out under for gladioli optimal conditions.
