GENETIC RELATIONSHIPS AMONG MANGIFERA SPP. BASED ON RAPD MARKERS

R.J. Schnell, R.J. Knight Jr
Nine Mangifera species were analyzed using RAPD molecular markers to determine phylogenetic relationships. Ten selected primers produced 109 usable bands. Data were scored as presence or absence of bands. Analysis was conducted using average taxonomic distance, unweighted pair group method using arithmetic averages (UPGMA), and principal coordinate analysis. RAPD generated clusters did not always agree with the taxonomic classification based on phenotypic traits. When the two subsections of the genus were analyzed separately, the classification more closely agreed with the traditional taxonomic analysis.
