FRAGENTALUS x DALHANCOCKIANUS GEN. & SP. NOV. - SHRUBBY MACINTOSHAPPLE STRAWBERRY
Fragentalus dalhancockianus is a quadridecaploid (14x) hybrid which might be constituted using various biotechnological methods from the cultivated strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa L. cv. ‘Sparkle’), the shrubby cinqfoil (Potentilla fruticosa L.) and the apple (Malus pumila Mill. cv. ‘Mackintosh’).
The plant might be a shrub which reaches 2 m in height in north-central North America and bears large, strawberry-like fruits on fruiting spurs.
DNA-identification techniques might confirm that the shrubby MacIntoshapple strawberry contains DNA from all three species.
