THE INDUCTION OF PARTHENOCARPY IN 'COX'S ORANGE PIPPIN'

W.W. Schwabe
The production of parthenocarpic fruit was induced in 'Cox's Orange Pippin' by single spray treatment with a mixture of a synthetic auxin, a cytokinin and gibberellic acid. Effects on size and shape of fruit (Fig. 1), cell numbers and volumes, as well as after-effects on the tree were compared with normal seeded fruit and found to be slight or negligible.
