Selections, named BB (2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14) were obteined from the crossing Corylus avellana L. cultivar Tonda gentile delle Langhe x Corylus maxima Miller.

They are of merceological interest having roundish nuts, thin shell and non clasping husks. Some of them (BB8, BB10) are resistent to big bud mite (Phytocoptella avellanae), and arrive to 52% kernel.

Germinability and viability have been studied on freshly collected pollen and after 5 and 6 years storage at -18 C°.

Incompatibility alleles have been identified by cytophluorimetric techniques in order to verify the possible association with TGL.

Viability was determinated by tetrazolium salts, proline test and fluorescein diacetat. BB10 resulted compatible with TGL, with low percentage of anomalous pollen grains (2.33%) and the highest viability.

Pollen of all the tasted selections resulted highly viable after 6 years; the simple and inexpensive storage technique at -18C° results proper for germplasm preservation for middle term storage.
