MANNITOL "IN VITRO" CULTURE OF OLEA EUROPAEA L. (CV. MAURINO)

A.R. Leva, R. Petruccelli, G. Bartolini
Mannitol and sucrose were tested at different levels (both at 17, 34, and 68 gl-1, also at 8.5 for mannitol only) to improve proliferation of cultivar Maurino in vitro. Highest growth was obtained in presence of 34 gl-1 of mannitol or sucrose. Mannitol was more efficient than sucrose at the same level. Results indicate that mannitol could improve shoot growth, thereby substituting sucrose in olive in vitro cultures.
