ALTERNATIVE COVER MATERIALS AND THEIR USAGE IN PROTECTED GROWING

A. Günay
The continuous increase in the cost of greenhouse construction cover materials, heating systems and development of proper internal designs have made necessary a reconsideration of all these aspects in order to make profitable for growers. Undoubtedly, the usage and selection of cover materials are of great importance. Because such materials are used not, only for covering, consideration should also be given to weight, resistance to different strains, strength and the transmission of light and heat in understanding the climatic particulaars of protected growing construction and cost. These considerations easily explain why glass has been gradually replaced by artificial fibres as a cover material. First of all, it is necessary to define what features are expected from cover materials. It will then be easy to choose the proper material which fits the particular requirements.
