THE EFFECTS OF SOIL SOLARIZATION ON GLASSHOUSE TOMATO GROWING
Soil solarization is an easy and cheap method compared with other disinfection methods in agriculture.
This investigation was carried out in 1991–1993 in order to determine the effects of solarization on glasshouse tomato yield and quality. The soil that had been cultivated in summer was saturated with water and then covered with used PE for 6 weeks.
In the first year of the trial, the proportion of fruits in the first class was found to increase as a result of soil solarization and during the second year, the cumulative yields were also increased by 12.9%.
