EFFECTS OF SEMPERFRESH APPLICATION ON RIPENING OF TOMATO HARVESTED AT MATURE GREEN STAGE

T. Yoltas, Y. Tüzel, A. Gül
In this study, tomato fruits were harvested at mature green stage and stored at 21 °C for rapid ripening. Fruits were treated with Semperfresh at concentrations of 0.8 % and 1.2 % prior to storage in order to determine its effect on ripening and storage life. During storage, samples were taken at 3 day intervals and analyzed for color(a/b), firmness and weight loss. It was found that the rapid maturation of mature green tomatoes at 21 °C with Semperfresh treatments provided decreases in post harvest weight losses and an increase of shelf-life of up to 3–5 days in comparison with untreated control fruits.
