NUMERICAL EXPRESSION OF THE FLOWERING OF PEAR (PYRUS COMMUNIS L.) CULTIVARS

A. Máthé, J. Göndör, J. Nyéki
The seven years of flowering phenological investigations into 14 pear cultivars have established that flowering in pear (Pyrus communis L.) follows the same laws, as described for apple, sour and sweet cherry, peach, and other horticultural crops. The flowering index (Index-V) numerically expressing this process can and has been used to characterize both the flowering process of individual cultivars and to compare annual variations both in the process of flowering and in its dynamics.

Based on these results it could be postulated that flowering in pear is primarily governed by the climatic conditions. The role of genotype seems to be less expressed.
