SYNTHETIC CHARACTERIZATION OF THE EC-MEDITERRANEAN NETWORK OF RTD ON CULTIVAR EVALUATION IN PROCESSING TOMATOES
Description is made of the present network of RTD on cultivar evaluation in tomatoes for processing established under Action C of the EC-DGVI research contract proposed by AMITON: "Program of improvement of technological quality in tomatoes for processing".
Statistical design, population, rectangularity and main agricultural practices are the same for all the fields.
The number of cultivars is twenty. Nine of them are the same in all the fields and other nine cultivars are local choice. There are two controls, one common (UC 82 B) and other being a local one extensively utilized by the growers.
Pedogenetic and textural and chemical data from the soils of the different experimental fields are compared. For the climate the maps of UNESCO-FAO "Carte Bioclimatique de la Zone Mediterranéenne" (1963) had been utilized, as they offer a close relationship with the production of processing tomatoes.
