TOMATO ROOT-KNOT NEMATODE MELOIDOGYNE INCOGNITA (KOFOID ET WHITE) CHITWOOD CONTROL BY CHEMICAL TREATMENTS, SOIL SOLARIZATION AND RESISTANT VARIETIES

F. Fiume, A. Palumbo, S. Petralia
A research was carried out in greenhouse to individuate a strategy for the control of root-knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita (Kofoid et White) Chitwood on tomato. Chemical, physical (solarized plots) and biological (susceptible, tolerant and resistant varieties) treatments were compared. Root hyperplastic formation number, their dimensions and distribution on young and old roots, wet and dry weights were recorded, as well as the infested plant percentage and the nematode larva number in different soil samples. Phosphorodithioate, at the highest dosage, and soil solarization combined with resistant varieties guaranteed the best plant protection.
