PRINCIPLES OF MOTION ECONOMY APPLIED TO THE SETTING OUT OF TULIP BULBS IN BOXES ON THE WORK BENCH

G. Stoffert
Time and motion study rules are accepted in industry as a matter of course, but so far hardly any attempt has been made to apply them in horticulture. Taking the job' boxing tulip bulbs at the work table' as the example, work study principles have been used to analyse and improve the work methods current in horticulture.

Altogether, 14 work methods were compared in one work trial and examined for work load and job time requirement. It was found that the use of a bulb chute gave tremendous scope for the application of time and motion study rules and that in consequence work output rose appreciably.
