THE MORTON ARBORETUM: A RESOURCE
The Morton Arboretum encompasses 600 hectares of cultivated and native plants growing in varied topographies.
There is a large botanical library; an educational program for children adults, and students from accredited colleges; a collection program responsible for the care of approximately 3 200 taxa and 45 000 woody plants; and a research staff with expertise in soil chemistry, root physiology, plant pathology, natural lands management, rare and endangered species, biology, dendrology, ecology, and taxonomy.
The herbarium has over 120 000 specimens of cultivated and spontaneous plants, and is well represented with northern temperate region genera.
