THE ULTRASTRUCTURE OF SHOOT APEX OF PISTACHIO (PISTACIA VERA L.) GROWN IN VITRO WITH REFERENCE TO SHOOT-TIP NECROSIS

A. Abousalim, S.H. Mantell
The ultrastructure of shoot apices of pistachio grown in vitro was carried out to characterize shoot-tip necrosis at the cellular level. The transmission electron microscopy investigation showed that the early signs of shoot-tip necrosis consisted of invagination of the plasmalemma. As symptoms progressed, an extreme disintegration of membranes and organelles leading to total cell autolysis was observed.
