INVESTIGATION ON NUT DEVELOPMENT IN HAZELNUTS AND DETERMINATION OF NUT CHARACTERISTICS AND VARIATION WITHIN CULTIVARS IN SOME HAZELNUT CULTIVARS
First chapter, nut length and width development of these cultivars were investigated in a hazelnut plantation involving these varieties. In the result, the width development was determined as 1,921 cm, 1,760 cm and 1,621 cm, respectively; the length development was determined as 1,930 cm, 1,949 cm and 1,835 cm respectively. Between plants and weeks were determined significant differences.
In the second chapter, nuts were picked from average 35 hazelnut plantations in center and village. In these cultivars, nut weight, shell thickness, kernel weight and kernel ratio were determined as 1.552–2.662 g, 0.71–1.0 mm, 0.972–1.410 g, 50.51–65.06 %; 1.750–3.174 g, 0.66–1.09 mm, 0.184–1.709 g, 46.51–60.74 % and 1.669–2.605 g, 0.65–1.04 mm, 0.851–1.400 g, 48.53–56.34 %, respectively.
In addition, coefficients of variation for nut weight, kernel weight and kernel ratio in cultivars were 10.05, 8.10, 5.73 %; 13.52, 14.17, 5.50 % and 10.24, 10.11, 3.86 %, respectively.
