BEHAVIOUR OF SOME HAZELNUT VARIETIES IN THE SUBCARPATHIAN AREA OF OLTENIA - ROMANIA
In the subcarpathian area of Oltenia, hazelnut culture finds favourable conditions for developing.
During 1990–1995, there was studied the behaviour of 24 varieties; 3 of them obtained in Romania, at Research Station Vâlcea (Vâlcea 22, Cozia and Romavel).
The cultivars: Vâlcea 22, Ennis, Romavel, Du Chilly, Butler and T.G.D.L. have been emphasized because of high production (more then 2000 kg/ha) and fruiting constancy.
Because of the fruit quality, there were noticed the following varieties: T.G.D.L., Romavel (for industry) and Ennis, Butler, Cozia, Vâlcea 22 (for table).
In the climatic conditions from the area of study, the minimum temperatures are -18 to -20°C during the blooming period and, for that reason, the late blooming varieties (Romavel, Ennis, Merveille de Bollwiler, Cosford) are presenting interest for the growers.
