LEAF SCORCH AND NECK ROT IN NARCISSUS

B.H.H. Bergman, C.E.I. Noordermeer
In the Netherlands a form of bulb rot occurs in some narcissus cultivars. The rot, which starts in the bulb neck, is usually found during dry storage after harvest. Botrytis narcissicola and Stagonospora curtisii have been isolated from diseased tissue, but it is not yet certain whether both fungi (separately or together) are equally responsible for the disorder. Results of an experiment on the control of leaf symptoms caused by S. curtisii and neck rot by means of bulb disinfections, foliage sprays with fungicides, or a combination of the two are reported.
