DETERMINATION OF THE OPTIMUM SOWING DATE FOR EGGPLANT AND SWEET PEPPER GROWN IN THE SUDAN FOR EXPORT
Sowing dates of 18 August and 8 October were compared at Shambat for 5 cultivars of sweet pepper.
The first planting increased early yield by ½ ton per feddan (1 feddan = 0. 42 ha) and total yield by 4 ½ tons per feddan.
The average fruit weight in the early yield from the first planting was double that from the second planting.
The most productive cultivars were Jade and Californian Wonder: these are suggested for future export.
In corresponding experiments on eggplant the first planting increased total yield by 11 ½ tons per feddan. The cultivar Black Beauty gave the highest yield and is recommended for export.
