CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS FROM BARK WOOD AND LEAVES OF MAYTENUS FLORIBUNDA (REISS)

G.D.C. Meléndez Salazar, G.D.F. Silva, J.R. de Sousa
Eight compounds were isolated from Maytenus floribunda (Reiss) Celastraceae. The leaves of the plant yielded the steroids: beta-sitosterol and beta-sitosterol-betaD-glucoside. The bark wood yielded the polyol: dulcitol; the steroids: beta-sitosterol and beta-sitosterol-betaD-glucoside; the flavonoids: 4'–O-methyl-(-)-epigallocatechin and proanthocyanidin A; and the pentacyclic triterpenes: friedelin, friedelinol and 28-hydroxy-3-oxo-friedelane.

The substances were identified by spectral analysis (UV, IR, 1H and 13C NMR) and melting point.
