NEW INTERESTING STRUCTURES FROM THE CHILEAN FLORA
In connection with our research program dealing with the chemistry of the Chilean flora a screening program for anticancer activity was carried out.
Of 519 plant extracts, 156 gave initial results indicative of anticancer activity in one or more systems.
However, the activity could be confirmed, in only 14 samples from the same group of plants.
In addition we studied 276 plant extracts, to detect compounds with antibiotic properties.
This study showed a rather high percentage of plants with activity against Sarcina lutea, Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli.
The present communication reports the chemical constituents isolated from some species from the families Amaryllidaceae, Asteraceae, Celastraceae, Elaeocarpaceae and other interesting compounds from the families Euphorbiaceae and Podocarpaceae.
