Both polyembryonic and monoembryonic mango (Mangifera indica) varieties are commercially grown in Taiwan. "Tsar-swain" and 'Irwin' are the two leading ones comprising about 80 % of the total production area. The planted area and total production were 21,110 hectares and 202 thousand tons, respectively, in 1996. The average yield per tree was 27 kilograms. Most of the fruits were consumed domestically. There was only 1.2 % of the total production exported in 1996. Important cultural practices and methods used for increasing yield and regulating the production seasons are described in the text.
