Macadamia (Macadamia spp.) is a subtropical fruit tree from Australia and is a relatively new crop in México. It is cultivated for its edible kernel and high oil content. A morphological evaluation was performed on accessions from the Centro Regional Universitario Oriente (CRUO) macadamia germplasm bank from the Universidad Autónoma Chapingo (UACh). We came up with a proposal of phenotypic characters, which can be used to asses this and other collections. This report is part of the dissertation project “Genetic diversity of macadamia germplasm” whose overall objective is to quantify and characterize macadamia using phenotypic and molecular characters. The proposition is based in the International Plant Genetic Resources Institute (IPGRI) descriptors for fruit tree species.
