INVESTIGATION OF OCCURRENCE AND TESTING OF APHID-BORNE STRAWBERRY VIRUSES

R. Karešová, H. Vacková, F. Paprštein
In years 2000-2002, the presence of aphid-borne viruses (SMoV, SCV, SMYEV, SVBV) was monitored in strawberry plantations in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Selected plants were tested on Fragaria vesca ‘UC4’, ‘UC5’, ‘UC6’, ‘EMK’, ‘EMC’ and ‘Alpine’ indicators. Indicator plants or strawberry plants showing symptoms were inoculated mechanically on herbaceous indicators Chenopodium quinoa, C. murale, C. amaranticolor, C. album, C. foetidum, Nicotiana occidentalis 37B, N. benthamiana, Hyoscyamus and Gomphrena globosa. Selected plants and indicator plants with symptoms were tested for presence of nepoviruses (AMV, RpRSV, SLRV) and TNV, TSV and SMYEV by ELISA to detect the possible incidence of virus complexes. The number of tests made on particular strawberry indicator plants and positive tests on these indicators are stated in results. 18 isolates of SMoV, SCV and SMYEV were identified on indicators plants. SCV often was present in complex with SMoV. SVBV was not detected in the Czech Republic n this survey.
