BREEDING SOUR CHERRY FOR RESISTANCE TO LEAF SPOT: NEW PROMISING SELECTIONS
The ultimate objective of the Romanian sour cherry breeding program is to create and release varieties that are resistant or highly tolerant to leaf spot.
At the Research Institute for Pomology Pitesti, various crosses have been made between hybrids - that previously have shown some tolerance to disease - and their parents or non-related cultivars, which show the similar characteristic.
Two individuals from the subsequent progeny were selected, with high tolerance and the best productivity.
A brief description of the selections is presented.
