The high variability of fruit characters in pears in wild populations, in forest associations in Serbia, was investigated and the results were presented in this paper. In situ, 14 separate genotypes of wild pear Pyrus communis L. have been fully studied. The variability in characteristics of fruits is expressed in size, length of fruit stalk, number of seeds per fruit, color of fruit skin and other characteristics. In two years study, the average fruit mass in 14 studied genotypes of wild pear varied from 7,9 g (genotype number 4A) to 38,8 g (genotype number 10). The seed numbers in fruits of the studied genotypes of pear varied from 2,3 (genotype ‘Drenca’) to 9,5 (genotype 9). There are significant morphological differences between genotypes of wild pear in the studied population and they differ in other pomological characteristics as well.
