´URIASE DE VALCEA´ - A VALUABLE NEW HAZELNUT CULTIVAR
The cultivar Uriase de Valcea (Ennis x Purple Filbert) was obtained at S.C.D.P. Valcea and named in 2002. Its fruits are for table consumption.
The tree is of medium vigor and a semi-erect habit.
Blooming of both types of flowers is late.
The cultivar is well adapted to the environmental conditions in Romania, is tolerant to diseases and produces high yields of fruits.
The fruits are large (size index of 23.3 mm), ovoid in shape, with an average weight of 4.8 g, a roundness index of 0.88, a shell thickness of 1.1 mm, of good uniformity and with the kernel representing 49.1% of the fruit weight.
Fruit ripening takes place at the beginning of September.
The cultivar is propagated only through grafting because when layering is used a red-leaf plant can occur (due to chimeral origin) which is different from the cultivar.
