THE MODE OF INHERITANCE OF WEEPING HABIT IN JAPANESE CHESTNUT, CASTANEA CRENATA

K. Kotobuki, Y. Sawamura, T. Saito, N. Takada
Using six weeping chestnut varieties, the mode of inheritance of the weeping habit was investigated. All weeping varieties except ‘Tatsuno’ showed that the weeping habit is controlled by single recessive genes. The weeping habit of ‘Tatsuno’ is controlled by a single dominant gene. These results suggest that the weeping characteristic is inherited mutually independently.
