COMPARISON OF BUDDING TECHNIQUES IN WALNUT (JUGLANS REGIA L.) PROPAGATION

M.K. Sharma, N.K. Joolka
Annular and patch budding methods in walnut were compared with a view to standardize the technique and time of budding. Budding was performed from 2nd July to 19th August at 8 days interval. Annular budding on 2nd and 26th July and 3rd August gave highest bud take success of 80.0 per cent however, the success was lowest (12.6 per cent) on 10th July. Patch budding, performed on 2nd July, gave the highest bud take success of 80.0 per cent and on 3rd August, it was 60.0 per cent. Linear and radial growth at the end of the growing season was also highest in annular budding. On the whole, annular budding proved to be the best method for the vegetative propagation of walnut.
