GRAFTING APRICOTS IN MOSCOW

L. Kramarenko
In Moscow, at the Main Botanical Garden, experiments of apricot grafting have been carried out regularly since 1989. The best results were obtained with apricot seedlings. Good compatibility of apricot and P. besseyi and its hybrids was observed, but the compatibility with plum and myrobalan seedlings was not always satisfactory. With rootstocks produced from softwood cuttings, preference is given to a myrobalan ‘Alycha 13-113’. It was shown that, in the conditions of Moscow, spring grafting (with 3-bud cuttings) is preferable to summer budding.
